Sigh of Relief

I am still struggling with breaking Ben from his bottle. He only wants it with his milk, and I have given in to his demands. I am ashamed every time we're in public and he demands the bottle. I am annoyed every time my mom nags at me about it. I feel like I am a bad mom when I see all my friends kids' off the bottle and loving sippy cups or real glasses. So you cannot imagine how giddy I became when I ran across this photo...

This is Gwen Stefani with her youngest son, Zuma, at his 2nd birthday party. What's that I spy? A Born Free bottle in little Zuma's hands? Yes! Somehow I feel less like a complete loser knowing that another mother is letting her son enjoy the bottle. It must be something about those Born Free bottle! Ben loves his too. Sure, I know I still need to get him to kick the habit...but I feel a little less ashamed knowing she's waging the same war.

Gabriel took 1 bottle in the morning until he was 2 years old and had a paci until he was 27 months..I worried and worried and felt like a bad mommy, but he loved them so much I just could not stand to take them from him....After his 2 year appt, I told him the doctor said no more paci and bottle...He loved that bottle in the morning and I was ashamed too and didn't want anyone to know! But looking back on it, who gives a crap! What did it really hurt for him to have it? Not that I want him to be 5 and still with a bottle, but having it longer than 1 year like recommended by "everyone" is really not the end of the world! Hang in there and just enjoy that little guy! And once we told Gabriel he coulnd't have them anymore, it was really not a big deal..he asked about them a few times but after a week, never mentioned them again! We left the pacis for the Easter bunny to give to babies that "need them", maybe you can work out some little plan like that for the bottles :)

Ok so I freaked out at first because Zuma looks like Ben in the picture! Haha! Look, if Ben tries to go off to college with a bottle, maybe then we'll have a little intervention. Let him be a baby, this grown up business is not all it's cracked up to be...wish I had a bottle!

I didn't realize until recently that kids are "supposed" to be off bottles so early. Why? A two year old is still a baby in my eyes. What's the worst thing that can happen from a few more bottle years? I think (with all my unqualified opinions) that you are doing great!

Dear Lady you are an amazing mother! I am 54 year old mom and have a 24 year old daughter that was a dream child! When she was ten I asked her what she liked best about me! She said, "mommy you don't care what other people think or do, you do what is right for us!" I believe only the mother knows best for her particular child... you are doing a beautiful job meeting your child's needs.... block out all the criticism...in the end it's you who will reap the rewards as I have! He wont go to school with a bottle in his mouth! Good luck! Follow your heart!
